A waitlist is a list of students who have requested to be notified should a seat become available in a course that is filled to capacity. A student whose name is on the list is guaranteed the opportunity to register for an open seat before it is offered to the general campus.
How the waitlist works:
A student may add his name to an available waitlist via the DUCK registration screen.
The waitlist operates on a first-come, first-served basis. When a registered student
drops his seat in a course, the seat is reserved for the first student on the waitlist.
The reservation is valid for 18 hours. The student will be notified of the seat’s
availability via his official university email address. To claim the seat, the student
must log onto the DUCK and register for the course within the 18-hour window. Any
registration errors (such as a time conflict, duplicate course, or co-requisite
course registration error) must be resolved at this time. Should the reservation
window expire before the student claims the reserved seat, the seat then is reserved
for the next student on the waitlist. A student whose reservation expires may add
his name to the waitlist again, but he may not regain his previous position on the
list. For this reason, it is highly recommended that students check their email
regularly during the registration period.
Note: Any student who no longer is interested in registering for the waitlisted course should remove his/her name from the waitlist to allow others an opportunity to enroll in the course. Waitlisting is currently only available in ASTR, BIOL, and CHEM lab sections.
For more information on how to use the Waitlist, click here.
UPDATE 01-09-2015: During DROP/ADD, the reservation window will be reduced to 8 hours to accommodate as many students as possible. It is in the student's best interest to check his or her university email account frequently in the event that a seat becomes available for him or her to claim.
