The Georgia Resident Assistant Saturday Seminar, otherwise known as “GRASS”, is held annually with support from the Georgia Housing Officers (GHO). The conference provides the opportunity for student-staff members to learn from each other across the State of Georgia and share best practices in residential education and services.
Dr. Shakeer Abdullah
Dr. Shakeer Abdullah, PhD. currently serves as the Vice President for Student Affairs at Clayton State University. Prior to this role he was the Assistant Vice President for Equity and Diversity at the University of Minnesota.
Shakeer earned his undergraduate degree from Wittenberg University, his M.A. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from the Ohio State University, and his Ph.D. in the Administration of Higher Education from Auburn University. His education includes extensive international study including travel to Lumbadzi, Malawi and participation in programs at the University of Cairo (Cairo, Egypt) and Lancaster University (Lancaster, England).
An emerging scholar-practitioner, Dr. Abdullah has published in the area of multicultural competence and remains an active national presenter, consultant, and trainer. He has written a 2012 book entitledBaptism by Fire: An Investigation of the Experiences and Multicultural Competence of Diversity Staff in Higher Education (Lambert Academic Publishing). His research takes a broad view of the issues of diversity on college campuses and connects the imperative of inclusion to the core enterprise of teaching and learning. Abdullah, S.
