Clayton State University Foundation Retreat Focuses on Leadership, From Vision to Impact and the Future of Higher Education
(August 26, 2026) - Clayton State University leaders, Foundation trustees and community partners came together for the Clayton State University Foundation Board Retreat, a day focused on the theme of Leadership from Vision to Impact. The day's discussions centered on the future of higher education, the university’s path forward, and the important role trustees play in advancing student success and institutional impact.
The retreat brought together university and system leadership for conversations about the changing higher education landscape, Clayton State’s role in the region and opportunities for Foundation trustees to serve as informed advocates and ambassadors for the university. A key point of the discussion was the impact trustees can have through their personal relationships, community and business connections; they play a key role as advocates and ambassadors for the university.
A highlight of the retreat was a fireside chat featuring University System of Georgia Chancellor Sonny Perdue and Clayton State University President Georj Lewis. During the chat, the two leaders addressed issues impacting the evolving higher education environment and the opportunities and challenges facing institutions and the students they serve.
Lewis continued the conversation during “President’s Perspective: Leading Clayton State Forward,” sharing his vision for the university and its continued commitment to creating opportunities for students, strengthening communities and positioning Clayton State for the future.
In summarizing the value of today’s Foundation retreat, President Lewis emphasized that “At Clayton State University, being a people-centered institution is more than a guiding principle.
