Department of Dental Hygiene provides back to school smiles
(July 24, 2024) - Clayton State Dental Health students were back at it in the community once again as they provided pearly white smiles to local students preparing to return to school.
Six Dental Health Lakers participated in the Antioch East Baptist Church’s Community Health Fair on Saturday, July 20, and provided dental evaluations and preventative oral hygiene demonstrations for children as young as two years old.
Patricia Smith from the university’s Dept. of Dental Hygiene said that parents in attendance also approached the dental hygiene team for everything from questions to dental evaluations of their own.
She added that both parents and students were additionally advised to follow up with a dentist for radiographs and further comprehensive exams.
“The services provided by the Clayton State University Dental Hygiene Department left an indelible impression on the youngest to oldest participants,” Smith said. “The department has a supportive director and team members who truly have the hearts to provide the best dental care possible, not only within the community, but to surrounding areas, as well.”
Smith added that she is “proud” to be a clinical instructor for the program and says students and staff alike will be ready to treat returning patients during their next visit.
