Public Safety Police Officers
This position performs police work in protecting life and property, preventing violations, enforcing laws and regulations on university property, and apprehending violators within police jurisdiction. As certified law enforcement officers in the state, they have full arrest powers, and conduct criminal investigations where necessary. The officers also patrol campus areas on foot or by motorized vehicles, watching over buildings and grounds. In doing so, they are in position to observe and investigate suspicious actions and persons, as well as dangerous or defective conditions. They also open and lock doors as needed and enforce campus traffic laws, issuing citations and investigating accidents, as needed. The officers also routinely engage in public relations activities on campus, advising students, faculty and staff of campus rules and regulations, provide training, directions, and other information as requested.
The public safety officers are all certified through the state of Georgia’s Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Commission to carry firearms and are sworn law enforcement officers with full arrest powers. They are required to undergo continuous firearms and investigative training to maintain their certification and proficiencies.
