How to Prepare for the Career Fair
- UPDATE YOUR RESUME: If you are a current Clayton State student or alumnus, go to Career Services and have your resume reviewed. If you are not a current or former Clayton State student, reach out to the department that helps with career development and job placement ...most schools have one. If all else fails, go to YouTube and get tips for improving your resume. After your resume has been reviewed, make the necessary modifications! Don't forget to print out at least 15 copies of your resume for the recruiters.
- REVIEW THE LIST OF COMPANIES PARTICIPATING IN THE CAREER FAIR: After you review the list of companies participating in the career fair, go to their websites and learn more about the companies. Review the job postings and consider applying for jobs you are interested in. Don't forget to edit your resume (each time you apply for a new position) to ensure it is aligned with the job description.
- PRACTICE YOUR ELEVATOR PITCH: Your elevator is a brief (less than 1 minute) way of introducing yourself and making a connection with someone. Google tips for improving your elevator pitch. Practice, practice, practice your elevator pitch!
- UPDATE YOUR LINKEDIN PROFILE: LinkedIn is a display of your professional experiences and achievements. This platform also allows you to tell people who you are and connect with your professional network. Remember LinkedIn is NOT TikTok, Instagrams, X etc. Make sure your posts and photos are professional.
- GET BUSINESS CARDS: You should consider getting business cards that have a QR code to your resume. If you don't have the business cards for this career fair, order them for the future. Google tips for creating a business card.
- DRESS FOR SUCCESS: Dress in business professional attire. If you are a CSU student or alumni, Career Services has a wardrobe closet or funds to assist you with your attire. Remember you only get one time to make a first impression.
- 10 THINGS TO AVOID DURING YOUR JOB INTERVIEW: Watch the YouTube video about Tips about Preparing for an Interview.
- INTERVIEW QUESTIONS: Review this document about Interview Questions.
