Alumni Spotlight: Andrita Brown
(April 20, 2020) - Mississippi native Andrita Brown 12’ is a proud Clayton State alumnus graduating with a BAS in Administrative Management. As a member of the Clayton State University Alumni Board, Andrita is heavily passionate about not only alumni, but students as well. As she puts it, “One of my greatest desires is to make an ongoing contribution to the stories of other lifelong Lakers.”
As a non-traditional student, Andrita’s experience was unique in some ways. She admits, “I did not spend much time in common areas and hanging around campus”. While that seen is more popular among a more traditional crowd, her focus was more on academia. She continues, “I was certainly more focused and committed to my studies than I had been in the past”.
Her decision to get back into school certainly didn’t come over night. As she entered the obstacles of adult life, she realized that Clayton State was where she needed to be. She illustrates the time of her life saying, “Before becoming a student, I worked as a buyer for a nonprofit organization. At the time, I was also married and had a young son. Although I was blessed with a pretty good job, I always felt a tug to go back to school.” Andrita took advantage of a program called the 2+2 Pathway towards BAS. In addition to eventually earning her Bachelor’s Degree, she was also able to earn her AAS in Marketing & Merchandising.
Currently, Andrita has the pleasure of owning her own small project management and event services business. She also is very involved with various other organizations besides the Alumni Board such as Meeting Professionals International, American Association for Career and Technical Education, and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. As a passionate Laker, Andrita has some advice for other Alumni who want to the get the best out of their Alma Mater. She exclaims, “Stay updated and REACH OUT!!! There are so many great opportunities and programs available to alumni both inside and outside of the Atlanta area. It’s never too late to get involved.”
