Trio of Clayton State professors release new textbook

(August 28, 2023) - This month, three Clayton State faculty members announced the release of a textbook entitled Fundamentals of Georgia Family Law. 

The book was written by Legal Studies professors Antoinette France-Harris and Sherry Southard, and Denise Allen – an adjunct professor of Legal Studies. 

Together, the three have almost 50 collective years of teaching experience as well as decades of experience as practicing attorneys. 

France-Harris, Southard, and Allen say their textbook is 478 pages in length and is a culmination of extensive statutory and case research and analysis geared toward paralegal and pre-law students interested in learning the basics of Georgia family law. 

They also called it “a unique and invaluable tool for legal professionals as they enter the field and for others seeking to gain basic knowledge about Georgia’s laws pertaining to the family.” 

Fundamentals also provides a general overview of key legal issues and describes how family law has changed significantly in the Peach State with the passage of time. 

“We are grateful for the hard work of our student research assistants – Launell McGuine, Rackaya Haughton, and Courtney Crawford,” the authors stated. “We also appreciate the encouragement and support from our colleagues in the Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Departments."
