Certificate in Cybersecurity

To capitalize on students who may not need a bachelor’s degree, but require knowledge and skills for a cybersecurity career, the department of Computer Science and Information Technology offers a pre-baccalaureate (undergraduate) Certificate in Cybersecurity Program. This certificate program allows Clayton State University to provide educational services to high school graduates, working adults, and other audiences who want to pursue a career in cybersecurity but not to require a bachelor’s degree. Students who are in any baccalaureate degree programs can also enhance their cybersecurity skills through this program. Students will have the opportunity to experience cybersecurity coursework and earn a needed certification.

Student Learning Outcomes

At the completion of the program, students will be able to

  1. Demonstrate skills and knowledge of fundamental coding, its applications, and cybersecurity
  2. Explain and apply ethics in cybersecurity
  3. Master skills for cybersecurity practices

Program Description

The undergraduate Certificate in Cybersecurity will consist of five courses (15 credit hours) that covers the basics in programming, cybersecurity essentials, networking and security, and ethics in cybersecurity. The program seeks to provide students who have not earned a bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity with the opportunity to study cybersecurity to start or change to a career in cybersecurity. This certificate can enhance an individual’s credentials for working in cybersecurity. The required courses for the program and the course description are below. Students must complete the coursework with "C" or better to earn the certification.

This pre-baccalaureate certificate program is 100% online.

  • High school diploma or working professionals with equivalent credentials

Financial Aid

Students in the certificate programs are not eligible for financial aid.

Program Length

This pre-baccalaureate certificate program can be completed in as little as 2 semesters. Certificate completion may take longer depending on the number of credits taken per semester.
