Federal Grants
A grant is a form of financial aid that does not have to be repaid. The type of federal grants available are Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG), Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Opportunity Grants (TEACH) Grants, and Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants. For more information please visit, Federal Student Aid website.
Federal Pell Grants usually are awarded only to undergraduate students who display
exceptional financial need and have not earned a bachelor's, graduate, or professional
degree. For more information visit, Federal Pell Grant website.
The FSEOG is another source of financial aid that doesn't have to be paid back. These
grants are awarded to undergraduate students who have exceptional financial need and
who have not earned a bachelor’s or graduate degree. For more information visit, Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) website.
The TEACH Grant is different from other federal student grants because it requires
you agree to complete a teaching service obligation as a condition for receiving the grant, and if you don't complete the service obligation,
the TEACH Grant will be converted to a loan that you must repay, with interest. For more information visit, Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant website.
The Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant is a federal grant available to undergraduate
students whose parent or guardian was a member of the U.S. armed forces and died as
a result of military service performed in Iraq or Afghanistan after September 11,
2001. For more information visit, Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant website.
