Media Relations Guidelines
The Office of Marketing and Communications serves as the official liaison between Clayton State University and the media. All media engagement should be coordinated through this office to ensure accurate, timely, and consistent messaging on behalf of the University.
If you are considering contacting the media or are approached for a media opportunity, you must notify the Office of Marketing and Communications in advance. This allows the University to track media interest, align messaging, and provide appropriate guidance or support.
Media inquiries should not be directed to students without prior coordination with the Office of Marketing and Communications.
If the Media Contacts You Directly
Media may occasionally reach out to faculty or staff directly. If this occurs:
- Notify the Office of Marketing and Communications as soon as possible
- Gather key details: reporter name, outlet, topic, and deadline
- Do not ignore the request; timely responses are critical in media relations
The Office of Marketing and Communications will:
- Coordinate the University’s response
- Prepare you for the interview, if appropriate
- Serve as the primary point of contact for sensitive or high-profile inquiries
Faculty and staff may participate in interviews when appropriate, but all media engagement must be coordinated with the Office of Marketing and Communications.
