Effectiveness assessment of teaching and learning is an important component of instruction at Clayton State University. The faculty strives to measure and document teaching effectiveness in an effort to support and improve student academic achievement and to ensure that our courses support the approved Learning Outcomes for our music programs. Clayton State University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC) and is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). All education programs at Clayton State University have been approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) and are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), formerly known as NCATE.
Learning effectiveness in the music program is assessed through the study of:
- Applied music jury rubrics
- Recital and concert programs
- Scores of selected course assignments and test questions in required and elective music courses
- Student transcripts
- Teacher education documents
Records of these assessment instruments are maintained in the office of the Department of Film, Communication and Performing Arts and are reviewed periodically by the music faculty to identify possible instructional areas that require revision.
