Moving-In Preparations Frequently Asked Questions

Move-In Days are usually scheduled for sometime the week prior to the start of semester classes. Residents will receive additional information and instructions regarding parking, specific move-in times, etc., 2-4 weeks prior to the move-in date. All tuition, housing and meal plan charges must be paid in full prior to move-in. Students with a balance due will not be permitted access to their housing room/suite.

Residents can request to be assigned together in an apartment suite by indicating their suitemate preferences on the personal preference form that is completed through the housing reservation/contract process. Each resident will need to list one another as a preferred suitemate in order for this preference to be considered. If a resident does not have a specific suitemate request, the resident will be assigned with suitemates generally based upon the responses on the personal preference form.

Residents will be able to access their suitemate information via the DUCK online portal 2-4 weeks prior to the announced move-in date. An email will be sent to notify residents when this information is available.

It is recommended that a resident try to make contact with his/her suitemates prior to move-in in order to make friendly introductions and possibly discuss shared items to bring.

Residents should plan to bring personal items with them such as bedding, toiletries, school supplies, clothing, etc. A more detailed list of suggested items will be emailed to all residents prior to move-in.

Laker Hall - Each suite has a kitchenette with a microwave and a full-size refrigerator with a freezer. There is a full community kitchen on the first floor.

Laker Village — Each apartment has a full kitchen with stove/range, full-size refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher.

All furniture that is in the apartment suite and bedroom at move-in may not be removed, so residents will not be able to bring their own large furniture items. Residents are welcome to bring small personal items, like a filing cabinet or small plastic shelves/drawers.

In Laker Hall and in the 100 - 900 and5000 apartments, the dimensions of the mattress is36" x 80", which is considered extra-long twin-size.

In the 1000 - 3000 apartments in Laker Village, the dimensions of the mattress is 54" x 75", which is considered full size.

While most students prefer to have their personal mobile phone, a public landline phone with VOIP service is located in study lounges of Laker Hall. Residents will be able to use the phone to make on-campus and local calls. These telephones are also equipped with an on-campus emergency notification system.

While resident students should feel free to personalize their bedroom and make it their home, it is NOT permissible to paint the bedroom or apartment suite or put holes (i.e., nails, tacks, etc.) in the walls. Residents are encouraged to purchase non-puncture, removable wall adhesive in order to hang various items.
