Out of State Waiver

Each Fall, the university offers a limited number of tuition waivers to academically outstanding first-year and transfer out-of-state students.

Clayton State University celebrates diversity and values the unique backgrounds and experiences that out-of-state students bring. Therefore, the university offers a limited number of tuition waivers, providing in-state tuition rates as an incentive for out-of-state students to attend.

Important Announcement

The Out of State Waiver is only available to Fall applicants.

Eligibility

To be considered, applicants must:

  1. Apply and be admitted for the Fall term.
  2. Meet the minimum criteria listed below.
  3. Must be lawfully present in the United States. Learn more about lawful presence.
  4. Not be a resident of Georgia. Learn more about residency.

Requirements

Minimum Criteria for Consideration:

  • Essay - Written Statement of at least one full page, but no more than two pages detailing why you wish to attend Clayton State University and what you wish to accomplish with your college education.
  • Relevant extracurricular/academic experience - List of activities, honors/awards, community service, student leadership and work experience.
  • Test scores/GPA - see the criteria for your student type

Freshmen are students who have never attended college or who have fewer than 30 college credits. Awards for freshman applicants are granted for up to four years or the completion of a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.

Minimum Criteria for Consideration:

  • Grade Point Average - High School GPA must be 3.25 or higher in college preparatory courses
  • Test Scores - SAT 1000 (minimum 400 math, 430 critical reading) or ACT (minimum 22 composite, 17 math, 17 English)

Awardees must maintain a minimum 2.50 institutional GPA at the end of each spring semester to continue qualifying for the waiver. Additionally, all freshmen are required to reside on campus. Learn more about the freshman live-on requirement.

Transfer students have 30+ transfer credits from another college. Awards for transfer applicants are for two years or the completion of a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first.

Minimum Criteria for Consideration:

  • Grade Point Average - Transfer GPA must be 2.68 on all complete and attempted coursework.

Awardees must maintain a minimum 2.50 institutional GPA at the end of each spring semester to continue receiving the waiver.

 

Note: Decisions are made with a holistic perspective based on submitted materials. Attempted course work (work in progress) will be considered when final college transcript is received if the decision was not based on the final transcript.
