ESOL Endorsement

For the past two decades, Georgia’s immigrant population has been one of the fastest growing in the entire nation.

The schools of our local community and region have experienced a steady influx of English Language Learners (ELL) from around the world, particularly Mexico and Latin America, East Asia and South Asia.

To increase the preparedness of all pre-service and in-service teachers to meet the needs of ELLs, the School of Education offers the English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Teacher Endorsement Program.

The ESOL Endorsement Program is a three-course sequence (9 semester hours) with course-embedded field experiences. The program is offered from the Department of Teacher Education. Candidates who pursue the ESOL Endorsement must demonstrate the skills and knowledge to create environments and learning experiences that engage English Language Learners in active learning and authentic academic achievement.

Candidates must consistently assess and use results for improvement of K-12 student learning. ESOL Endorsement candidates are also expected to demonstrate knowledge and mastery of research-based practices and create classrooms that feature culturally relevant pedagogy.
