Federal Work-Study Program

What is Work-Study?

The Federal Work-Study program provides part-time jobs to students with financial aid eligibility. Your eligibility depends on your financial need, other types of aid you receive, and the availability of work-study funds and positions.

7 Benefits From Work Study

  • Flexible schedule around your classes
  • Convenient work locations with your job on or near the campus
  • Chance to enhance your work experience
  • Earnings deposited in your bank account every two weeks
  • Opportunity to develop your interpersonal skills
  • Unlike loans, work-study funds do not have to be repaid
  • You acquire job skills you can use after graduation

To establish eligibility, you must:

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the appropriate academic year. After you are awarded, contact the Financial Aid Office by email at FinancialAid@clayton.edu to discuss your assignment.

  • You will be notified by email regarding your work-study eligibility.

You’ve been awarded. Now what?

Contact Career Services before applying for a work-study position. Log into CareerZone using your DUCK credentials and apply for any work-study position. Then, send your resumes to Career@clayton.edu. A Career Service Specialist will contact you.

Many work-study jobs are available on campus. There are also mentor positions located off campus during the school year. The link to information regarding mentors is here.

  • You must be enrolled in at least three hours to participate in the work-study program, and you can earn income starting at $9 per hour for an on campus position and off campus (mentor) positions are $10 per hour. The maximum amount you may work is 19.5 hours. You are paid every two weeks by direct deposit.
  • Your financial aid is reviewed for the next term or academic year. If you are enrolled, making Satisfactory Academic Progress, are eligible for federal financial aid, have the minimum unmet need, and the department still requires a work-study student, you may be awarded work-study for the next term or academic year.
  • At no cost to you, background checks are required for all work-study positions. You must attend at least one Professionalism Training Workshop presented by Career Services. Summer work is not guaranteed, but it will be offered if funds are available.
