Clayton State earns Tree Campus USA School distinction for sixth year

(May 9, 2019) -  Clayton State University continues to be recognized as a green campus, earning the 2018 Tree Campus USA School designation for the sixth consecutive year. The university joins more than 300 other higher education institutions who have been recognized by the nonprofit Arbor Day Foundation for effective campus forest management.

The University met five core standards set by the Arbor Day Foundation to earn the distinction–establishment of a tree advisory committee, evidence of a campus tree-care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance, and the sponsorship of student-learning projects.

Tree Campus Schools this year have collectively planted 32,204 trees and engaged 31,682 students in protecting the environment this year, according to the Foundation. Clayton State recently held its annual Arbor Day ceremony, where faculty, staff, and students planted Eastern Redbud trees.
