College of Health Welcome
Welcome to the College of Health! There has never been a more exciting time to be interested in a career in health care. In my forty years in the profession, I have never been more enthusiastic about the future of health care and health care education. The most recent listing of the US News and World Report of Best Jobs lists 8 out of the 10 best jobs as coming from the health field.
The College of Health is among the largest of the colleges at the University, with approximately 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Degree options include BS degrees in dental hygiene, health care management, health and fitness management, health sciences, nursing and master's options in family nurse practitioner and health administration. These combinations of graduate degrees, professional programs, and undergraduate majors uniquely position the College to contribute to the overall mission of the university.
As the academic home to more than 40 full-time faculty members, the faculty’s nationally recognized research and professional leadership both inform their classroom teaching and connect students to their respective fields. The Clayton State College of Health focuses on addressing complex social problems, not only through treating illness but also through promoting wellness. We strive to provide opportunities for interprofessional collaboration opportunities whenever possible so that graduates will enter their various professions ready to collaborate and consult with a wide range of professionals.
In the College of Health, students have the opportunity to study abroad, learning about global health, and accompany faculty to professional conferences to present research. Many students are also offered opportunities to participate in on-site internships before graduation in most majors. Dental hygiene students learn in the Clayton State University Community Dental Clinic and the other COH majors participate in on site experiences in a wide range of community and tertiary health centers.
