Dr. Rodger Bates, professor of sociology, is the 2016 recipient of the GSA Meritorious Service Award at the Georgia Sociological Association Meetings. Bates was recognized for his contributions to scholarship in support of the Journal of Public and Professional Sociology. He has three of the top five most accessed articles in the journal, and his contributions have been viewed in more than 30 countries.

The health field is booming, drawing innovative, creative minds seeking to make a difference. The College of Health is dedicated to training future healthcare providers in degrees, including nursing, dental hygiene, and a number of other health science and management programs, such as the Master of Health Administration.
You’ll receive hands-on clinical and lab experience under the guidance of faculty who have years of experience in their fields. Featured in the New York Times, Dr. Hae Ryong Chung’s collaborative research on cholesterol-lowering statins has implications for those involved in recreational or prescribed physical activity. Using mice as subjects, Chung and his fellow researchers found that statins seemed to make exercise more difficult and less beneficial.

College of Information and Mathematical Sciences
Careers in technology are on the rise and will only keep climbing. The College of Information & Mathematical Sciences (CIMS) helps support the tech professionals of tomorrow through undergraduate and graduate programs in math, engineering, computer science, information technology, and archival studies.
CIMS students have unique opportunities to engage in research projects and become part of the college’s information and technology student organizations, including the Math Club; Women Interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics; and the Association for Computing Machinery.
A lifelong scholar, practitioner, and lover of mathematics, Dr. Weihu Hong, professor of mathematics, recently had published the Art of Mathematics. Incorporating imaginative examples and explanations drawn both industry experience and his years as a teacher, Dr. Hong wrote this book to inspire in others the same enthusiasm and curiosity for mathematics that has driven him throughout his career.

The College of Business is highly engaged, collaborative, and entrepreneurial, because in today’s competitive environment, that’s what you need in order to make your dreams real. Offering five undergraduate business majors and an MBA, the college supports many outreach and experiential learning initiatives. You’ll receive guidance from nationally recognized faculty and staff and have access to five centers of business and eight business-related student organizations.

Professor of Marketing and International Business Dr. Alphonso O. Ogbuehi was selected as one of only 1,200 US citizens for the revered Fulbright US Scholar Program. Fulbright grants are awarded to those of exceptional academic and professional achievement. A leader in his field and widely published, Dr. Ogbuehi received a grant to study business and entrepreneurship in Nigeria during the 2016–2017 academic year.
